Is it possible to edit or "hide" certain categories from the native app that your service give you? I know tivimate has these options but havent found a way to hide all the other channel categories I will never watch. TIA!

You can use m3u4u.com to edit your m3u your self.
Sometimes you can contact your provider and they can hide them for you on their end. I use tivimate wherever I can...just makes sense. The apps provided by your provider is good for phone or limited use.
You need contacting your provider if the only way to access the content is via it's app
For Apple devices, you have iProTv that let you created your own categories (like « kids » « NBA » ..) and these categories are synced over all your devices. Hiding categories will come in next version (in beta test right now) and these hidden categories are synced over your devices too ;)
